Lamaze Philosophy of normal birth Class Content: Week #1 -All about pregnancy (common tests, emotional and physical changes), Quick Labor Overview, Nutrition, Exercise, All about contractions, Hormones of labor, Relaxation explained, Breathing,relaxation practice Week #2 - Homework discussion, labor overview with game,labor progression, homework discussion, labor variations, 4 P's, pain theories, hand massage, visualization practice Week #3 -Homework discussion, positioning and comfort measures early labor, use of birth ball, second and third stage overview, immediate postpartum/newborn procedures, visualization practice. Week #4 - Homework discussion, what to expect at 36 weeks and beyond appointments, informed consent, communication and birth options, early postpartum, relaxation practice. Week #5 - Homework discussion, review informed consent/advocating, common interventions and cesareans, unexpected events, birth visualization. Week #6- Potluck, homework, postpartum planning, overview normal newborn feeding and behavior, labor practice. Guest speakers may be invited to class.
Students receive a workbook, handouts and access to the vast lending library of books and movies.
