Blog Entry 12 of 31 Dancing with Mr. Bojangles
This is a site where people of the Colorado Springs area - young and old - can share their thoughts on sports teams, sports figures, sports coaches and sports happenings. This blog is designed to help the community draw closer together. The pulse of the community is often related to sports. A high school football game brings people together for a night of celebration. A Little League baseball game brings out the child in all of us. Sports and athletics are a part of almost everybody's life. Please feel free to share your thoughts and experiences.

What a great community we live in
Contributed by: Danny Summers   on 10/12/2006

I joined The Gazette more than five years ago, and worked the last two years for The Slice. I have enjoyed serving the people of this community.
My jobhas given me the opportunity to meet new and exciting people on an almost daily basis.

I've written about life, death, victory, defeat, heartache and conquest and greyhounds. I've talked to people who bowled 300 games, pitched horseshoes, raced motorcycles, played ping pong and walked for a cure for cancer.

I've unearthed historical events that somehow got lost in the annals of time; like when Babe Ruth came to town for a baseball hitting exhibition in 1940. In 1953, a group of major league all stars led by Yogi Berra played an exhibition game at Memorial Park. I also wrote stories on area legends Ford Frick and Norman "Bulldog" Coleman.

The pulse of this town is with its people. From the soccer fields to the basketball courts, and from the baseball diamonds to the golf courses, people are constantly on the move.

The Slice may be going away, but people's stories will still be heard in YourHub. YourHub is a new and exciting way for residents to share their unique stories with their next door neighbors or crosstown rivals.

We live in a city that is constantly changing. Construction is going on all around us, and new people move to town everyday.

The landscape of sports has changed dramatically in the last decade. Pikes Peak International Raceway closed its doors. The Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame and Museum closed for a short time to reorganize, announced it was moving to Albuquerque, and then decided to remain in town.

Sky Sox Stadium changed its name to Security Service as team owner Dave Elmore added more than $5 million in improvements. In the last 10 years, Pine Creek, Sand Creek and Mesa Ridge high schools have been built. So has World Arena, Pride Soccer Complex and dozens of city parks.
The next decade of growth should be just as exciting.

Please share your thoughts and stories with all of us.
