Father's Day weekend was a whirlwind for our family. Saturday afternoon I was snapping photos and taking video footage (see the Web site) of the hundreds of dogs at Bark at Briargate, the third annual event at The Promenade Shops at Briargate. There were lots of local vendors, training and obedience demonstrations, pet food and supplies, groomers and pet salons, as well as adoption and rescue organizations.
I really enjoyed watching my daughter gawk at all the dogs while my wife and I pushed her around in her stroller. Although we watch a neighbor's dog for a few hours once per week, we've held off on getting one of our own for various reasons, not the least of which is the hefty pet deposit we'd have to pay for keeping an animal in the house we're leasing. If you ask her, "What do you wish for when you wish upon a star?" she always says, "A doggie." Heartbreaking, I know.
I also ran into the prolific YourHub contributor Pam Sirko, whose booth featuring her animal portraiture was right next to the YourHub table. She lives in Woodland Park and writes a regular horseback riding column for the west hubs. She was just as interesting and knowledgeable about horses as her articles had indicated.
Sunday afternoon I was back at The Promenade Shops at Briargate having a Father's Day dinner at P.F. Chang's. My daughter brought in her new "fly launching gun" that came with eight fake flies for flinging, which of course ended up strewn around the table as we ate. Oh, what the waiter must have thought of us.
How did you spend your weekend?
