El Paso County's Parks and Leisure Services Department is adding a new restroom with a multi-purpose room at Fox Run Regional Park, located at 2110 Stella Drive, in northern El Paso County. The addition is part of the recently approved Master Plan for the park.

The new facility will be constructed adjacent to the ponds. Each year the park's gazebo at the ponds hosts about fifty weddings and receptions. Currently there are no restrooms in the general vicinity to support these activities.

The new facility is expected to be completed by summer 2007. It will include an 18 x 24 foot multi-purpose area with a fireplace that can be used for receptions, nature programs and special events. In addition, the facility will serve as a small Nordic Center in the winter months and will host ice skating, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing activities. The facility will be designed and constructed by Wells and West Inc.

Funding for this project comes from Regional Park Impact Fees paid by local developers to support the expansion of the park system to accommodate population growth in the respective area.

"By adding a Nordic Center and multipurpose area, we continue to make Fox Run Park even better and we are doing so without taxpayer dollars. Many visitors to Fox Run Park will use the new four-lane Highway 83 south of Northgate. Both this highway expansion and these improvements at Fox Run were paid for by new residents through development fees, part of how we are trying to have growth pay its own way," said Commissioner Wayne Williams.
