Believe in Girls!
Contributed by: Kristy Milligan on 11/8/2006

The sun was barely up yesterday when nearly 225 supporters, volunteers, and Girl Scouts united at Girl Scouts - Wagon Wheel Council's sixth annual Believe in Girls Breakfast. The attendants opened their hearts - and their wallets - to partner with the council in their mission to build girls of courage , confidence , and character , who make the world a better place.

According to an early count , the event generated almost $40,000 in unrestricted funding for Girl Scouts - Wagon Wheel Council , which will be used to support all of Wagon Wheel Council's programs including: outreach programs for disadvantaged youth; resident and day camps; science , technology , engineering and mathematics programs; and council-specific community service programs.

The breakfast featured inspirational speakers , including Lynne Telford , Jennifer Barber , Carol Kleiner and girl members Jennifer Green , Hannah Eskeldson , and Jaime Sparks. The program also included a performance from Colorado Springs Youth Symphony members Calvin Armstrong , Margaret Babb , Natalie Cominiello , and Anna George , as well as a compelling slideshow that highlighted the year's programs and activities.

Girl Scouts - Wagon Wheel Council thanks their girl helpers: Graham Gale , Rebecca Grier , Jenny Heimerman , Lauren Kennedy , Miranda Schene , Brittany Spaw , and Reagan Taylor. The organization also thanks the fantastic table captains who made the event possible: Suzi Arnold , Jennifer Barber , Kim Boyd , Christi-Marie Butler , Judy Cara , Edna Daniels , Megan Harmon , Barbara Horst , JJ Jamison , Robin Johannes , Carol Kleiner , Marty Lockhart , Michele McGill , Kristy Milligan , C.J. Moore , Elva Muñoz , Anne Pamp , Lee Rasi , Steve Sandridge , Abby Laine Sienkiewicz , Patty Butler Spiers , Willie Straws , Sandy Taylor , Lynne Telford , Terri Velasquez , Donna Vessey , and Renita Wolf.

"We are thrilled at the abundance of support , " said Sandy Taylor , CEO of Girl Scouts - Wagon Wheel Council. "The attendance and generosity we saw at the breakfast proves that this community believes in girls and recognizes the value of Girl Scouting."

Since 1917 , Girl Scouts - Wagon Wheel Council has provided girls in the Pikes Peak Region with an experience unlike any other and opportunities to build courage , confidence , and character , to make the world a better place.
