VNA Serves Seniors with Community Clinics
Routine foot care and health assessments available at local community centers
Recognizing the difficulty many seniors have in accessing routine health care, the Visiting Nurse Association (VNA), the non-profit provider of home care, hospice and wellness services throughout Colorado, is hosting community health clinics at local senior centers.
The senior wellness clinics are designed to help seniors manage and prevent chronic disease. VNA's registered nurses provide immunizations, monthly injections including vitamin B-12, and health screenings. The nurses also provide general health assessments, routine foot care and ongoing monitoring of chronic diseases including hypertension, heart disease, diabetes, arthritis and lung disease.
"As we age, it becomes increasingly difficult to care for ourselves, especially when it comes to our feet. We become less flexible and often lose hand strength or eye sight to care for ourselves safely," said Shari Mathews, RN, wellness manager at the VNA. "VNA's senior wellness clinics offer convenient, affordable access to routine foot care and other important health services."
VNA's senior wellness clinics are currently available at two locations in Colorado Springs and additional locations will be added soon. Wellness services are available at the Colorado Springs Senior Center, 1514 North Hancock Ave, every Monday, Thursday and Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. To schedule an appointment, please call 385-5933. Foot care and routine health services are also available at the Fountain Valley Senior Center, 5745 Southmoor Drive, on the third Wednesday of every month from 9 a.m. to noon. Call 520-6470 to schedule an appointment call.
