Well things, are about to get better for those of you who are looking for a place to take the family. The original genuine Texas steak house, Saltgrass Steakhouse has just opened a new store in the northern part of Colorado Springs. Of the 37 stores nationwide, only 6 stores are located outside of Texas. Three of them are in Colorado. If you know where the Chapel Hills Mall is, then you know approximately where the newest location is.
On February 10 th Saltgrass Steakhouse kicked off their opening with a dinner for a Fort Carson Brigade. 100 different Fort Carson soldiers and families were given free dinners. This was a training dinner, but most of all they wanted to show there appreciation for our military. Sunday, February 11 th was the Saltgrass official pre-grand opening. I had the pleasure of attending and trying them out for the first time with my friend Dion Kerns. The food and service was extremely professional. Saltgrass Steakhouse showed the great hospitality that Texas is famous for. Even though it was a limited menu, our waitress went the extra mile to serve us.
Our dinner started off with an amazing Seafood Fondeaux, served with warm fresh Shiner Bock Beer Bread. Even though steak is their specialty, the Fondeaux was better than anything I have ever tasted. Of course, you can't eat a nice juicy steak without a fresh green salad, and I hoped I would have room for the entrée. I was supposed to order the chicken tender dinner, but our waitress accommodated my wishes by serving me a nice cut rib eye that would melt in your mouth. As she said, "The customer always comes first." The Saltgrass Steakhouse specializes in their tasty Certified Angus Beef® brand steaks, and let me tell you that the steak was excellent. And when I thought things couldn't get better, they accented the steak with a large shrimp skewer, grilled to perfection.
The icing on the cake was when one of the servers brought out desert on a large tray. The desserts were as large as the state of Texas. On the tray sat a Brownie Sundae with the magnitude of the Texas Stadium. Next to it sat a triple layered chocolate cake as rich as Mr. Donald Trump himself. What caught my gaze was a creamy round scoop of vanilla ice cream that sat comfortably next to the cake. I saw Dion lick his lips, grab his spoon and begin to dig into the indulgent chocolate cake like he was mining chocolate gold. I ate most of the ice cream sundae and completely ruined my girlish figure. Afterwards Dion just about passed out, and had to be carried to his car by Irene because he was so full and content. He said that he did not eat for the rest of the day, but instead thought of his Creamy Chocolate Brownie Sundae, covered in chocolate sauce. Tuesday, the 13 th was the official grand opening, and everyone who is in the mood for steak should stop by. Dion and Andy give "two thumbs up to the Saltgrass Steakhouse."
