What could be more fun for a group of girls than to spend the night at the mall? How about throwing in some Air Force cadets, shopping, a DJ, a dance party (provided by BEAT 96.1), an all-night arcade, Starbucks, a letterbox hunt, helping others and a little science into the mix? Last Saturday night, Junior, Cadette and Senior Girl Scouts from all over Colorado spent the night at The Citadel mall, but as is true with any sleepover involving young ladies, very little sleep was to be had!
Girl Scouts from all over Colorado attended this Hi-Tech Hide and Seek Event, some visiting a mall for the very first time. Since this was an event designed by girls for girls, the scouts, dressed in pajamas and slippers, were up all night putting their science, creativity and deductive skills to use. They spent the earlier part of the night designing and implementing their own letterbox hunt, which took them to every corner of the mall ... and back again! Girls used their creativity to fashion stamps out of erasers, make letterboxes out of shoeboxes and invent clues for their fellow Girl Scouts to decipher, all in the name of all-night fun and excitement!
Girls who decided to make this event an all-nighter after the hi-tech hide and seek, stayed up watching movies, playing games, talking and generally having a good time. The girls also participated in a local service project, donating comfort items to Fort Carson soldiers serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. The Girl Scouts would like to say a BIG THANK YOU to the 30 Air Force cadets who helped with the security and implementation of this event.
When asked what the best and worst parts of the event were, the girls said their favorite parts were meeting other Girl Scouts, dancing, figuring out the clues, and the shopping. The worst part was that they couldn't shop all night long!
