As of October 1st, 2007,five Girl Scout Councils throughout Colorado have merged to form one big council. The newly formed Girl Scout Council of Colorado celebrated the day of the merger by encouraging all troops to take part in a "S'mores Day" event on October 1st with their sisters in Girl Scouting.
Throughout the state of Colorado, Girl Scouts and their families gathered around camp fires to sing songs, play games, and roast s'mores ... that wonderfully sticky dessert made up of marshmallows, chocolate, and graham crackers. The girls constructed the s'mores themselves, and found that everyone's preference was different: some liked their marshmallows on fire, some burnt, others slightly roasted , and many never let their marshmallows make it to the roasting stick, as they were immediately eaten straight from the bag. All in all, everyone was happy, the girls, their siblings, and parents enjoyed themselves, and all had made more terrific friends in scouting.
Locally, Girl Scouts and their families from Troops 34, 189, and 931 gathered at the Wolf Ranch Gateway park to celebrate as a group. As Girl Scouting often does, it brought different girls from all over together. The girls who attended the S'mores event in Wolf Ranch were all from troops in Colorado Springs, yet they had ever met until that night,. However, by the end of the get-together they were all singing songs and roasting marshmallows as if they had been long time friends. The girls can hardly wait until the end of the month, when they are getting together again for a Halloween Bash!
