I scored two free movie tickets to Tinseltown (next to the World Arena) from YourHub. I'm waiting for "American Gangster" to come out, but I need a break in the middle of the week, "Elizabeth, the Golden Age" won out.
You've got to go to the movies on a Thursday, especially when the Rockies are playing the World Series. Lots of seats and no waiting for popcorn! Try it.
"Elizabeth, the Golden Age" has:
BREATHTAKING court scenes,
CATE BLANCHETT in Queen's armor,
Cate with her long red hair flowing - her white dress blowing in the wind as she looks upon the burning Spanish Armada in the middle of the English Channel.
Wow.
The Virgin Warrior Queen doesn't get her man, Sir Walter Raleigh (Clive Owens). Her lady in waiting, the beautiful Abbie Cornish, snags him.
That's got to hurt.
Mary Queen of Scots plots to have the Queen murdered. And fails. We knew that one though, didn't we?
Back to the movie. Eeek! Protestant Good. Catholic Bad. Poor Protestant England (always shown in gaity and light) trying to be all peaceable vs bad, conniving, dark "Papists" Spain. The movie tee hee hees over Sir Walter Raleigh, the pirate / privateer attacking Spanish trade ships. Because all English people and everything that they do is proper and right?
Okay, my religious sensitivies and my desire for historical truth were trampled on, but I was lured into the fantastic scenery, the gorgeous Cate Blanchett depicting a woman warrior and queen, and the unshaven Clive Owen behaving so gallant and romantic.
Was it worth the money if had I spent any? Eh.
Free, the movie was great !
