IRON SPRINGS CHATEAU MELODRAMA DINNER THEATREAt the top of Ruxton Avenue in Manitou Springs, Colorado, sits the historical structure which houses one of the best melodramas in the West. Named the Iron Springs Chateau for the mineral-rich water, which once bubbled up beneath it, this lovely old place full of antiques and owned and operated by a trio of actors.
Come boo the villain and cheer the hero at the Iron Springs Chateau Melodrama Dinner Theatre's 47th season of family entertainment with it's new production of "Gold Fever" by Linda Ruybalid and Vicki Kelly. A rip-roaring western melodrama, the production deals with the struggles of heroine Darlene Clementine and her fiancé, rodeo cowboy Guy Bill Walker to save her restaurant and their future together from the machinations of gambler-con man Sylvester Slime and the shady diva, Splendora Vanity. The show climaxes in an exciting conclusion where an "old-time steam locomotive" comes right across the stage! Per tradition, audience participation is not only tolerated encouraged in the form of booing, cheering, and exchanging a quip or two with our zany cast.
Following the melodrama, is a fun-filled Sing-A-Long Intermission. Interspersed with delightful comedy numbers, the Sing-A-Long intermission celebrates anniversaries and birthdays in the crowd and gives the audience an opportunity to warm-up their vocal chords on some old standards.
Then, the melodrama cast, returns to present the "Vaudeville Style Olio", where you will hear favorite jokes, musical production numbers, and comedy sketches frequently "starring" audience members.
From a salute to our newest state song, "Rocky Mountain High", to a hauntingly beautiful version of the vocal classic, "Skylark", to the hilarious "Boomsidaisy" where men fro the audience join the cast ladies in a turn-of-the-century music hall routine, to a zany pirate skit and a rousing rendition of "Hard Hearted Hannah", the "Vaudeville Style Olio" is sure to have something to delight all ages.
The melodrama package plays from the end of April to the end of September. From the end of November through the month of December, the Chateau will offer a special "Holiday Extravaganza Revue", an hour and half of music, dance, and comedy with lots of audience participation and a sing-a-long intermission in the middle. A great way to have a company party. The melodrama is back for New Years Eve, with champagne and dancing. Performances are Tuesday, Wednes day, Friday and Saturday per reservations. Mostly weekends in April.
Accompanying the production is the Chateau's family-style dinner, featuring oven-fried chicken and barbequed beef brisket with all the trimmings, including dessert and either coffee or hot or iced tea. Cocktails are always on hand from one of our full-service bars. The delicious "House Drinks" are especially popular and can be purchased in a souvenir glass, to keep.
Dinner arrival is between 6 and 6:45 P.M. Diners must arrive before 7 p.m. At 7:30 P.M. the theatre opens for seating. All seats are reserved. The show begins at 8 p.m.
