Liberty High School celebrated it's 20 th anniversary on Monday, May 7. Activities began at 3:00 p.m. with an art gallery walk, music by the LHS jazz band, and cake and punch. Under the direction of Susan Bandy, Jt Hinchman, and Karen Winfield, Liberty art students displayed a fabulous array of ceramics, photography, print making, painting, drawing, and digital media. The jazz band had a great performance under the direction of Frank Meacham. A 20 year commemorative video, designed by senior, Emalee Fulks, was viewed by guests in the auditorium.
Mr. Weston, current principal, welcomed attendees and introduced dignitaries. Among our special guests were Steve Morrison, the first principal of LHS, Dr. Ken Turner, Deputy Superintendent, Bill Howerton, board member, Vicki Taylor, board member, Mike O'Rear, board member. A very special attendee from Oregon was Holly (Kottke) Frohlick, Liberty's first student council president. Also introduced was Charles Green, sculptor of the lancer statue.
Original founding teachers who currently teach at Liberty were introduced: Greg Biondi, Matt Hays, Laura Kadlecek, Ed Krous, Pam Norton, Marty Szeliga, and Gary Weston.
The LHS Class of 2006, 2007, and 2008 funded the lancer statue which was presented to our guests by Austin Ord, 2008 class president and Penny Herder, 2007 class president.
Coordinators of this event were Alan Thimmig, Susan McGinnis and Natalie Ritchie. Special thanks to Cindy Conner, Holly Hopkins, student council, facilities and building maintenance, and Anton Heil.
