On Thursday, May 11 the fifth-graders from Prairie Winds Elementary School took a field trip to The Air Force Academy, and received royal treatment. At the 98th Flying Training Squadron, cadets and instructors wowed the class with six parachute jumpers flying in the sky, a music driven slideshow, and a tour of the facilities.

The class asked some awesome questions. From the "How much training do you have to have?, Have you ever been hurt?, What is it like to fly into the football stadium? to, "Do you ever sleep?"

One of the students, Danny Curran, was presented with a special hat from one of the "wings of blue", who had been trained by Danny's father, John. Major Matt Sanning said, "I have known Danny since he was a baby. I hope he jumps better than his father," of course jokingly.

The day was perfect for flying. Blue skies, warm sunshine, and very little wind. I was honored as a parent and a journalist to be invited.
