A New York adventure of discovery
T. Benton Brooks
Re-emerging into the local art scene after a fifteen year absence from exhibiting,T Benton Brooks is opening his Manitou springs studio in november to show his most recent paintings.
As a twenty-nine year resident of Colorado Springs, originally from Southern California, Brooks left in August 2006 on a New York City adventure of discovery. He was on a mission to find answers to some longtime, pressing questions he had in relation to the powerful New York art scene.
Brooks wandered throughout Manhattan for ten straight days; taking in everything and arriving back home with most of his questions answered; and with a new direction and purpose.
Once home, Brooks set out with the help of his daughter, an artist herself, to find an affordable studio in Manitou Springs. once the studio was secured, and set up for work, Brooks decided to approach his new series of paintings quite differently from any he had in the past.
He purchased sixteen 36" x 40" canvases and hung them in the studio as if there were to be a show that first day. After the "show" was hung, Brooks began a long, ten-month journey, painting all of the sixteen canvases at the same time; moving from canvas to canvas and back again, roaming the studio walls, just as he had roamed new york city, ten months earlier.
At 58-years-old t Benton Brooks is once again ready to exhibit what he has created. Ten days in New York City inspired a series of 16 paintings that will be on view November 2nd, 3rd and 4th with a reception friday evening, the 2nd from 5:30-10:00 pm and saturday from 10:00 am until 8:00 pm and Sunday from 12 noon until 6 p.m. see New York through the eyes of an artist.
Location of art show is110 Canon Ave, Manitou Springs.
