The Challenger Center of Colorado will open its doors to the public for a "Returnto the Moon" mission at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 3, 2008.
"Return to the Moon" is a simulated space mission where astronauts, for the first time since the last Apollo mission in 1972, are returning to the moon to establish a base. The astronauts will accomplish three things as they establish a permanent lunar base. They can make observations of the solar system without the interference of Earth's atmosphere; and study of the feasibility for developing a self-sustaining off-planet settlement, as well as create a stepping stone for human planetary exploration.
This is a great opportunity for anyone that has a desire to learn more about being an astronaut or to experience guiding the astronauts from mission control.
The Challenger Learning Center of Colorado offers a variety of space-centered educational missions, including summer programs for students entering grades 1 - 12. Registration is required to join in this public mission. Participants must be 10 years or older. Call 719-598-9755 to reserve your spot for this exciting mission! Admission is $18/student and $20/adult. For more information about the center and its programs please visit our website at: www.clccs.org.
