Rumor has it that spring will be coming to Black Forest ... eventually. Heeding the call of spring, the residents are feeling the urge to kick up their heels. One Black Forest resident in particular, Carlene Peters, loves to dance. She has been involved in various community dances and dance clubs. She wanted to revive a community dance for this area, and hold it in the historical Black Forest Community Center. She thought of making the dance a fundraiser for the Black Forest Community Church Youth Group, and the idea of "Spring Fling Dinner & Dance" was born.
The Black Forest Community Church is hosting the dance at the Black Forest Community Center on Saturday, May 10, 2008. A lip-smacking barbecue beef dinner will be served from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Dancing follows from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Peters has arranged for different styles of music, including swing, blue grass, country, and other favorites for multiple generations.
Tickets can be purchased from the Black Forest Community Church through April 30. Peters urges everyone to purchase tickets early as seats are limited and are expected to sell out. Adult tickets (13 or older) are $20 each, and Child Tickets (12 or younger) are $10 each. Details, including purchasing tickets, can be found at
www.blackforestcommunitychurch.org
, or by calling Carlene Peters at (719) 495-4770 or the church office at (719) 495-2207.
Proceeds from this event will benefit the Youth Group of the Black Forest Community Church. The youth are planning a trip to the Omaha Indian Reservation in Walthill, Nebraska. These young people will be working on construction projects for Native seniors and the tribe. In the afternoons, they will assist with the vacation bible school provided for the local children. The Youth Group went to Nebraska in 2007, and really bonded with one another as well as with the children of the tribe. This summer, the teens are looking forward to another meaningful and rewarding experience.
