Class Philosophy: Based in the CAPPA philosophy and new Lamaze Philosophy of normal birth
Class Content:
Week #1 - All about pregnancy (common tests, emotional and physical changes), Quick Labor Overview, Nutrition, Exercise, All about contractions, Hormones of labor, normal labor progression, labor variations, relaxation explained, pain theories, breathing, relaxation practice
Week #2 - Homework discussion, positioning and comfort measures early labor, use of birth ball, pushing and immediate postpartum,newborn procedures, informed consent, communication and birth options, visualization practice.
Week #3 - Potluck, Homework discussion, review informed consent/advocating, common interventions and cesareans, unexpected events, how to consent or refuse, birth visualization.
Week #4- Potluck, homework, postpartum planning, overview normal newborn feeding and behavior, labor practice.
Guest speakers may be invited to class. Students receive a workbook, handouts and access to the vast lending library of books and movies.DVDs, classroom participation and other teaching techniques are utilized. It is $25 to drop in on any class segment.
*medicaid or financially in need families pay $30 for a complete class session
