Blog Entry 39 of 39 Forest Creatures
Let me introduce you to our cast of characters. My husband "Pops" and I are both over 50, fairly educated and we live on five plus acres between Black Forest and Peyton with 4 Akitas and a truly imperfect cat, named of course, Purrfect. I grew up in Colorado, he's from Chicago. We love the Broncos and the Bears, music, television and technology. Some people lead fairly quiet lives. Our lives are usually filled with constant misadventure. I am not sure if it is because we have several dominant pets or because my husband is always misbehaving but whatever the reasons we are usually in the middle of a storm. This blog will chronicle our adventures when I have time to file them. Sometimes I will be asking advice, sometimes I will just try to make users laugh.

Broken bones
Contributed by: Pula Davis   on 7/20/2008

The past few weeks have been some of the most challenging I have had in a long time. First of all I broke my wrist in two places two weeks before my birthday.

I wish I had a great story about that, but I don't. I was outside pulling weeds, turned to rush into the house and fell headlong toward some rocks.
Instinct kicked in, I tried to catch myself to save my face and pop went the bones in the wrist. The many reasons you really need two arms have become crystal clear to me. And my broken wing is almost mended.

So as I struggled to put on get dressed, drive, work, you name it, things have been hectic to say the least. But the human body is made to heal, so I have already shed the purple cast and am doing physical therapy. I have gotten past feeling sorry for myself and dropping everything.

Meanwhile I had to go on a busness trip to Salt Lake City where I got so lost I actually almost wound up in Wyoming, trying to find the hotel.

Salt Lake was beautiful but hot. The days were all in the high 90s and it never rained. While there I arranged to see the dog, Rocky, that I sold to a couple there about 3 years ago. I managed to find their house and the long drive was worth it.
Rocky is gorgeous, he's big like his daddy Kuma and very well behaved unlike my furry demons. You can tell he is loved by the bright eyes and the shiny coat - he's their baby.

I took some photos, a couple of which I have included here. He is the first puppy I ever delivered so he has a special place in my heart and I am glad I got to see him all grown up.

While I was gone Pops managed to let the dogs get skunked again. So when I returned home, I had to bathe dogs, although he had made a vain attempt at bathing them. I knew I was in trouble when we came home from the airport and I smelled skunk when we pulled into the driveway. Bathing dogs with one arm is also a challenge I could have done without.

I am glad to be out of the cast and trying to rectify the property. Our back acreage is a mess. Mowing hasn't been possible and we have had problems with the mower to add insult to injury. The jungle effect is probably why we have so many skunks trapsing around the property.

We had a pretty good Fourth, with lots of parties and wonderful food and friends and as the midpoint of summer passes, so far this has been a summer to remember.
