Blog Entry 37 of 38 Forest Creatures
Let me introduce you to our cast of characters. My husband "Pops" and I are both over 50, fairly educated and we live on five plus acres between Black Forest and Peyton with 4 Akitas and a truly imperfect cat, named of course, Purrfect. I grew up in Colorado, he's from Chicago. We love the Broncos and the Bears, music, television and technology. Some people lead fairly quiet lives. Our lives are usually filled with constant misadventure. I am not sure if it is because we have several dominant pets or because my husband is always misbehaving but whatever the reasons we are usually in the middle of a storm. This blog will chronicle our adventures when I have time to file them. Sometimes I will be asking advice, sometimes I will just try to make users laugh.

Farewell to frigid
Contributed by: Pula Davis   on 3/23/2008

As winter winds down, I for one, am not sad to see it go. It has been, in a word, cold.

Cold in the mornings when we set off for work and so cold at night. Even my four furry Akitas are starting to look up at us like, "You want me to go out where?" when we start to let them outside in the mornings. I just got back from Oregon for a work trip and I was stunned at how green and lush it is there compared to the brown and white landscapes we have here.

The temperatures really weren't that much higher but it seemed warmer because everything is so green and alive. I had so many misadventures the night I got back from Oregon I am surprised I ever made it home. I couldn't find my car in the airport parking lot, I lost the parking ticket stub, I turned the wrong way onto C-470 and I stopped to get gas in a neighborhood that reminded me of the ones in the Garmin commercial about getting lost in dangerous locations. When I get tired, I can be totally non-functional. Obviously I made it home.

Since I got back I have been immersed in work-related activities, nothing fun. My husband, on the other hand, is in the middle of his March Madness parties and is all about fun. Having joined Costco he is spending a lot of time there buying stuff for the parties.

Roshi, our year-old Akita is huge now and he has started romping on whatever or whoever gets in his path. When he first comes into the house he grabs one of his toys and flies around, bounding off the furniture and if I am not careful, me. I am glad he is a happy dog, but I wish he were a little calmer. I am thinking a dog trainer may be in his future.

On a really crazy note, my husband Pops called me from the corner of Black Forest and Burgess the other morning and said: "You might want to get into your car and come over here. There are the cutest puppies for sale and I think they might be Akitas." Once I got over my surprise, I said, "You have lost your mind, step away from the puppies." Like we need another critter! At least there's never a dull moment with Pops around.

The first weekend of March Madness partying, of course it snowed, but we did have a small gathering and a lot of great games to watch. Talk about upsets! No wonder this is his favorite time of the year.

The dogs are shedding. Akitas typically blow their entire coats about twice a year. That's always a sign that the weather is about to change, which I am so looking forward to. I can't wait to say farewell to the frigid temps and hello to the sun.
