Blog Entry 34 of 39 Forest Creatures
Let me introduce you to our cast of characters. My husband "Pops" and I are both over 50, fairly educated and we live on five plus acres between Black Forest and Peyton with 4 Akitas and a truly imperfect cat, named of course, Purrfect. I grew up in Colorado, he's from Chicago. We love the Broncos and the Bears, music, television and technology. Some people lead fairly quiet lives. Our lives are usually filled with constant misadventure. I am not sure if it is because we have several dominant pets or because my husband is always misbehaving but whatever the reasons we are usually in the middle of a storm. This blog will chronicle our adventures when I have time to file them. Sometimes I will be asking advice, sometimes I will just try to make users laugh.

Family frenzy

So those frenzied holidays are upon us and once again there are all those 'must do' family events that really make life crazy.

Most of my husband's family is up in Denver and while his mom was still alive we always went there for holdiay gatherings. Since she passed in April I had thought we might spend more holidays with my family and friends who are mostly in the Springs. No such luck, at least not for Thanksgiving.

To add to the chaos we had a dog incident that has me worried - Beauty kind of attacked her mom Sable the day before Thanksgiving. She came running into the house and started a fight with Sable that escalated into a pretty serious confrontation. Sable got the worst of it and I have kept them apart ever since. I am not sure what caused the fight, but recently people have been telling me horror stories about their own dogs fighting to the death, so I am really wary of them being unsupervised and a fight erupting again. I wish I knew what stirred up our usually timid Beauty. I don't know if it was jealousy or insanity but I haven't let them get into it again.
Apparently my nephew is going to ask his girlfriend to marry him during the holidays, so he wanted the whole family together at Thanksgiving to meet her folks. This meant 15 plus people trying to eat in a space that is fairly small and in a house that is really cluttered.

And I was volunteered to cook the turkey, macaroni and dressing! So much for the quiet Thanksgiving plans I had.
I got up really early and cooked everything and we drug it all up to Denver. That was when the fun really started. My sister-in-law had done nothing. She didn't even have the oven on. In her defense she is trying to take care of two aging parents, one of which has cancer and the other alzheimer's, so she has her hands full.

Naturally I was drafted to do more cooking. I wound up making the entire meal, minus the pies, which the guest brought with them. Made for a really long day but I survived.

This week I got out the holiday decorations and started trying to get into the spirit. I actually got our cat Purrfect to let me dress him in a Santa hat and scarf. I couldn't believe he stood for it. Beauty, on the other hand, had the hat on for about two seconds before she tossed it to the floor.

I am sure I will have more adventures as the weeks pass.
