Blog Entry 32 of 39 Forest Creatures
Let me introduce you to our cast of characters. My husband "Pops" and I are both over 50, fairly educated and we live on five plus acres between Black Forest and Peyton with 4 Akitas and a truly imperfect cat, named of course, Purrfect. I grew up in Colorado, he's from Chicago. We love the Broncos and the Bears, music, television and technology. Some people lead fairly quiet lives. Our lives are usually filled with constant misadventure. I am not sure if it is because we have several dominant pets or because my husband is always misbehaving but whatever the reasons we are usually in the middle of a storm. This blog will chronicle our adventures when I have time to file them. Sometimes I will be asking advice, sometimes I will just try to make users laugh.

Summing up Summer
Contributed by: Pula Davis   on 9/13/2007

It has been a while since I submitted an entry to the blog. There's not much really going on in our neck of the woods. We are just winding down from summer barbeques and getting ready for fall and the dreaded winter. As the seasons change there's a definite chill in the air out here in northern El Paso county. The other night was the signal to start thinking about fall.

We did have our summer party on Aug. 4 and I hope a good time was had by all. We had about 40 people and 8 spent the night camping out. Most of our "city" friends were not ready for that. They start worrying when it gets dark.

All our animals are doing fine. Kuma has survived the heat and is frisky again now that the weather's cooler. And Roshi is almost a year old. Never still for long, he is now a 90 lb bundle of mischief and mayhem. He's almost always digging or running as fast as he can. He literally crunched my foot last month coming in the house. It reminded me of the time his dad, Kuma, knocked me off a deck when he was a puppy. Roshi still loves to carry a toy in his mouth and hasn't changed much except for being more affectionate. He loves to cuddle and kiss, a trait I am encouraging so we don't have a 120 lb meany on our hands. I have included a new photo of him.

Our only real adventure recently concerned Sable, the mother of my brood. A friend who had just had major surgery was visiting on Labor Day and when he tried to go out the gate to leave, Sable seized the moment and took off running. He said she muscled past him and he wasn't able to stop her.

I scampered clumsily after her, but my husband was amazing. He took off running and actually was able to catch up to her when she ran into a neighbor's fence line. At least she came to him when he called.

I could not believe how fast he moved. Of course later that he was all aches and pains. But we got our girl home safely. She had headed north, towards Hodgen Road, a very dangerous place for doggies to roam.

That and a few antics from our cat Purrfect are about it for adventures. He's always lively and lately has taken to attacking imaginary foes. It can be a sock, a dust mite, almost anything. He runs around in circles chasing whatever. He also meows constantly when he wants treats. I have spoiled him so much that he won't give up until you give in. So much for trying to take a few pounds off of him.
All and all I guess it has been an OK summer, we didn't do anything special and we are still a little down, due to losing my mother-in-law this spring.
