Blog Entry 29 of 38 Forest Creatures
Let me introduce you to our cast of characters. My husband "Pops" and I are both over 50, fairly educated and we live on five plus acres between Black Forest and Peyton with 4 Akitas and a truly imperfect cat, named of course, Purrfect. I grew up in Colorado, he's from Chicago. We love the Broncos and the Bears, music, television and technology. Some people lead fairly quiet lives. Our lives are usually filled with constant misadventure. I am not sure if it is because we have several dominant pets or because my husband is always misbehaving but whatever the reasons we are usually in the middle of a storm. This blog will chronicle our adventures when I have time to file them. Sometimes I will be asking advice, sometimes I will just try to make users laugh.

Sasha and starting summer
Contributed by: Pula Davis   on 6/14/2007

Went to visit one of my 'grandpups', Sasha, this past weekend. From day one her owners have bragged on how pretty and wonderful she is and wanted me to come and see her.
They were not exaggerating. What a beautiful girl she has turned out to be. And she is so well behaved! She practically jumped into my arms. Unlike our delinquent doggies, she seems obedient and controlled. Her owners have lived up to my hopes when I placed her - they dote on Sasha. To see them with her was really gratifying. I couldn't ask for a better home for this grandpup!
When I got home I gave Sasha's parents and siblings a stern talking to - for all the good it will do me - about how well behaved she was in comparision to them. They were not impressed.

Despite the fact that an unexpected frost has probably killed my tomato plants, I am determined that summer is here.
There are definite signs at our place:
Many more vole holes that are driving the doggies crazy. Roshi is constantly finding and killing the small critters. I am surprised that we still have any alive. This has resulted in a large number of holes all over the property, the largest of which, I almost found myself in when I was mowing last week. Fortunately I was paying attention and noticed it before I wound up overturning the mower and breaking something.
Speaking of mowing: I am finally going to give up trying to make my own repairs and have sought professional help with our antiquated mower. It keeps popping belts and I am at my wits end with the whole process. But the knee high grass problem means we have to do something so I have sent the mower off with a repairman.
Another sign of summer is the afternoon rain storms, several of which have been fairly fierce. I have discovered that although we have a crawl space underneath the house no self-respecting Akita of ours will go down there. So if there is a serious storm I may have to throw them down there.

And as if life wasn't quite crazy enough, a friend of ours hit my vehicle the other night with his trailer hitch. Doing quite a lot of damage and making me really cranky. So now I get to spend MY time on the phone with his insurance company, the collision shop and the rental car place. But at least he HAD insurance. The last time I was nailed, the person had no real coverage so my insurance had to cover it.
