Blog Entry 27 of 40 Forest Creatures
Let me introduce you to our cast of characters. My husband "Pops" and I are both over 50, fairly educated and we live on five plus acres between Black Forest and Peyton with 4 Akitas and a truly imperfect cat, named of course, Purrfect. I grew up in Colorado, he's from Chicago. We love the Broncos and the Bears, music, television and technology. Some people lead fairly quiet lives. Our lives are usually filled with constant misadventure. I am not sure if it is because we have several dominant pets or because my husband is always misbehaving but whatever the reasons we are usually in the middle of a storm. This blog will chronicle our adventures when I have time to file them. Sometimes I will be asking advice, sometimes I will just try to make users laugh.

A TRYING TIME
Contributed by: Pula Davis   on 4/23/2007

The past few weeks have been very hard for us.
My mother-in-law passed away after a short illness and although she was 87, her death has greatly impacted us. She was a confidante, a support system and my mother, more than just a mother-in-law. It has been a painful time filled with moments I will remember forever.
My ususally jovial husband has been somber and kind of reclusive, which explains why I haven't been posting to the blog. We haven't had much fun to chronicle. Even our animals seem to have sensed now is not the time to run away or chew up the furniture. It is a time of reflection on the brevity of life and the importance of saying and showing someone that they are loved, which we did do, but saying goodbye is still unthinkable. There will be no way to ever fill the void.

I am planning to attempt a garden which should afford a lot of laughs. I have a vision of growing fresh tomatoes, carrots and some other things. Unfortunately we have voles everywhere so it will be a challenge to say the least. A few nights ago a rather large vole scampered right in front of the house - I am sure he will enjoy the garden vegetables too.

The doggies have also kept me busy, trying to figure out what food it is safe to feed them. We have tried several varieties. One resulted in some upset tummies, and I am still not confident that what I am feeding is safe. I don't have the time to make homemade dog food, but I am thinking along those lines. The dogs of course, are oblivious, trusting that I know what I am feeding them.

Akitas shed their entire coats - usually once or twice a year. We are approaching shedding season. Unless you have actually seen it, you could not anticipate the amount of fur my guys can generate. The only solution is lots of grooming, lots...

More snow!
Another storm hit us yesterday, another strong storm in April? I came home around 3pm and it was quite the trip. Woodmen Road was my only choice since several roads were already closed. The wind was amazing - visibility terrible. I managed to get here and now this morning we have to figure out how to get out again.
There's also a forecast for temps in the sixties later this week. Crazy Colorado weather.
