Blog Entry 20 of 40 Forest Creatures
Let me introduce you to our cast of characters. My husband "Pops" and I are both over 50, fairly educated and we live on five plus acres between Black Forest and Peyton with 4 Akitas and a truly imperfect cat, named of course, Purrfect. I grew up in Colorado, he's from Chicago. We love the Broncos and the Bears, music, television and technology. Some people lead fairly quiet lives. Our lives are usually filled with constant misadventure. I am not sure if it is because we have several dominant pets or because my husband is always misbehaving but whatever the reasons we are usually in the middle of a storm. This blog will chronicle our adventures when I have time to file them. Sometimes I will be asking advice, sometimes I will just try to make users laugh.

So now that we are settling into a routine I have a chance to spend more time with little Roshi the pup we have decided to keep. It's amazing how uncanny Mother Nature can be. The resemblance between Sable and Roshi is pretty remarkable. He looks so much like her it is like a step back in time to when she was a pup. Same markings, same black mask and coloring.
And his personality and intelligence are very similar to his mom's. So we now have another doggie that can open drawers, tries to open the sliding glass door to the deck and seems to understand everything we say. He already knows the difference between "get the cookie" and "get the ball". I have already installed childguards on the lower kitchen drawers and one cabinet. It's almost like having a furry two year old.
I plan on taking him to obedience school starting next month. If he is also as headstrong as his mother, that will be a must for us to survive. He could also be a candidate for agility training, if I can find the time and the energy.
Sable and Roshi have started to play together- which is cool to watch. Sable dominates him but also feints and baits him in the playful ritual that dogs love. I have posted a couple of pictures of Sable and her "duplicate" here.
On a less happy note, are preparing for yet another SNOW STORM. I can't imagine it, but the temperatures are also supposed to drop into the teens. So much for some of the snow melting. At least the drift in the driveway has shrunk in size somewhat and the drift by the barn is smaller. That's where our resident skunk was trying to make his home - up under the barn. I haven't seen or smelled him in quite some time. The poor thing may not have survived the recent series of blizzards. If anyone out there has ever tried to get rid of a skunk, you know that means we have had one bad winter so far. I also haven't seen any voles, squirrels although I have seen their enemy the fox.
It's looking like my shoveling episodes are no where near done.
