Blog Entry 8 of 38 Forest Creatures
Let me introduce you to our cast of characters. My husband "Pops" and I are both over 50, fairly educated and we live on five plus acres between Black Forest and Peyton with 4 Akitas and a truly imperfect cat, named of course, Purrfect. I grew up in Colorado, he's from Chicago. We love the Broncos and the Bears, music, television and technology. Some people lead fairly quiet lives. Our lives are usually filled with constant misadventure. I am not sure if it is because we have several dominant pets or because my husband is always misbehaving but whatever the reasons we are usually in the middle of a storm. This blog will chronicle our adventures when I have time to file them. Sometimes I will be asking advice, sometimes I will just try to make users laugh.

No Day but Snow Day
Contributed by: Pula Davis   on 10/26/2006

Well they said we were going to get a blizzard and they were RIGHT. I am trapped at home as is most of this part of the state. Everything is closed.
Up here northeast of Colorado Springs, we probably have about 8-10 inches already, if not more. It is hard to tell due to the blowing, or should I say howling winds. The house is groaning from time to time but at least the power is still on for now.
We are prepared for outages, although it makes things really interesting really fast.
Of course Beauty, our year-old "baby" is thrilled with the snow - my poor husband had to beg her to come back inside this morning. And she returned completely white and happy with herself. At the other end of the spectrum is Kuma, her dad, who has no love for the snow, the cold and the wind. He's content to curl up and sleep, as in the photo I posted here.
The puppies are now making nightly escape forays about 2 a.m. that are keeping us busy. I am averaging about 4 hours of sleep a night. Not that I usually get much more than that anyway with all the commotion here.
My husband's comment that the "puppies need something to do" will go down on the lengthy list of truly silly things he has come up with. If they're already bored I pity their new owners. We gave them some toys - a small ball and a doll that Beauty really ignores. They have no clue what they are.
More later on this storm....
---
I went outside to shovel the snow off the back deck so we can let the dogs out, if they will go. I was only outside for 5 minutes but I was saturated with snow and could't believe how wet this snow is. It's almost 2 in the afternoon now and it is still coming down. At least the wind doesn't appear to be any stronger.
I may venture out later and try to check on things in the barn before it gets dark.
